The “Pigeon Orchid” is probably the most common orchid species in S.E. Asia. In some areas it is found on every large tree, forming untidy curtains that hang from forks and branches. Flowering occurs 9 days after a heavy rainstorm causes a sudden drop in temperature; every plant in the area produces quantities of fragrant flowers that last for less than a day.
